Khulna:A meeting of the Khulna District Disaster Management Committee was convened in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office, with Deputy Commissioner Hoore Jannat presiding.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of preparedness due to Bangladesh's geographical location in a disaster-prone area. She highlighted the necessity of both individual and institutional readiness to effectively handle disasters, advocating for regular monitoring to enhance pre- and post-disaster management efforts.
The meeting underscored the need to educate the public about the meanings and implications of various weather warning signals. It was suggested that regular disaster preparedness drills could significantly raise public awareness and minimize losses during disasters.
Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of maintaining cyclone and other disaster shelters in a state of readiness at all times. She called for regular assessments to ensure the safe relocation of women, children, persons with disabilities, and the elderly to safer locations during emergencies.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Bittan Kumar Mondal, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Abdul Karim, and other committee members, including officials from various government and non-government offices.
