Khulna: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today urged teachers to play an active role in making the ongoing measles-rubella vaccination campaign in the city a complete success. He made the call while addressing an orientation meeting with teachers held at the Nagar Health Bhaban on Sher-e-Bangla Road here this morning.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was organised by the Health Department of KCC and was attended by teachers from various pre-primary educational institutions across the metropolis. Speaking as the chief guest, the KCC administrator emphasized that the measles-rubella campaign is an integral part of the nationwide programme being conducted in the Khulna metropolitan area.
‘KCC is making all-out efforts to ensure 100 percent success of the vaccination drive as the vaccine is crucial for the safe growth and protection of children,’ Manju stated. He portrayed teachers as the most aware section of society and highlighted their vital role as guardians in the upcoming school-based vaccination programme.
Manju further urged teachers to take responsibility in communicating the benefits of vaccination to every child’s family and to provide their cooperation by monitoring vaccination centers in their respective areas. This, he noted, was essential for the full success of the campaign.
The meeting was informed that the measles-rubella campaign in the Khulna metropolitan area would continue until May 20, with the last six working days dedicated to school-based vaccination activities. Despite the lower measles infection rate in Khulna compared to other districts, the progress of the vaccination campaign in the metropolis has been described as satisfactory, and the target coverage is expected to be achieved within the remaining days.
KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed presided over the meeting, while District Primary Education Officer Md Ahidul Alam and Thana Primary Education Officer Md Shahjahan attended as special guests. The event also saw participation from teachers of various maktabs, Ebtedayee madrasas, and kindergarten schools in the metropolis. KCC Chief Health Officer Dr. Sharif Shammiul Islam conducted the programme.
