Khulna:The Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has resolved to implement more stringent measures to ensure effective management of medical waste within the city. This initiative was concluded during a meeting of the KCC Medical Waste Management Committee at the GIZ auditorium of Nagar Bhaban.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting, addressed by KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju as the chief guest, emphasized the importance of safeguarding the city's environment through efficient medical waste management. It was organized jointly by UNICEF and KCC.
The meeting resolved to dispatch letters to all hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers in Khulna, instructing them to segregate medical waste. Additionally, a six-member monitoring committee will be established, consisting of representatives from the Directorate General of Health Services, Department of Environment, Khulna Metropolitan Police, the Private Hospital, Clinic and Diagnostic Owners Association, and two representatives from KCC.
This committee will oversee the compliance of medical waste segregation in healthcare facilities. Furthermore, mobile courts led by an executive magistrate will be conducted to enforce these regulations.
The meeting also highlighted the need for the swift operation of the newly constructed medical waste treatment plant at KCC's Rajbandh Trenching Ground. The session was presided over by KCC Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Medical Waste Management Committee, Rajib Ahmed, with various officials and representatives from involved organizations in attendance.
