Dhaka: Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain today urged people from all walks of life to refrain from excitement, misinterpretation, or any provocative activities ahead of the upcoming national election. He made the call while addressing the International Quran Recitation Conference 2025 as chief guest at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organised by the International Quran Recitation Association (IQRA) and attended by Islamic scholars from home and abroad, diplomats, and mission heads. Dr. Khalid emphasized that maintaining a peaceful environment is vital to ensuring a smooth election process. He warned against any attempts to create unrest by misinterpreting religion, stating that only genuine Islamic scholars have the authority to interpret religious matters, and the state will not accept any distortion of religious teachings.
Dr. Khalid stressed that no actions should be taken that could make the election questionable or obstruct the power transfer process. He called for responsible behavior from all citizens and emphasized the need for caution in every step leading up to the elections. Additionally, he highlighted Bangladesh's strong position in Quranic education, noting the international acclaim earned by Bangladeshi Hafez and Qari at global Hifzul Quran competitions. He credited the Islamic Foundation's Dini Dawat Department for its rigorous selection process, which contributes to the country's repeated success.
Furthermore, Dr. Khalid assured that government initiatives to enhance facilities for Hafez, Qari, Imams, and Muazzins will continue. The event was also attended by Cabinet Division Joint Secretary Tanvir Ahmed as the special guest, with IQRA President Sheikh Qari Ahmad Bin Yusuf Al-Azhari chairing the conference. Special Branch DIG Ezaj Ahmed and Islamic Foundation Director Harunur Rashid were present at the event.
