Barishal: Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain today stated that holding a free, fair, and neutral election is a collective responsibility. “The election will be held in early February…the government and the people of this country will try to hold a fair, free, impartial and inclusive election. It is everyone’s responsibility to guard the centres and ensure a fair election. For this, the government will remain beside you,” he said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Khalid made these remarks at the Ulema, Educationists and Intellectuals Conference, which took place on the second day of the three-day Agrahayan Mahfil at Charmonai Darbar in Barishal. He emphasized that while the government, alongside law enforcement agencies, will ensure the smooth conduct of the elections, public support is crucial. He also noted that post-election, the government will resume its usual duties, while the newly elected government will continue the work of the interim administration.
Khalid highlighted the unwavering dedication of religious scholars, asserting that their hard work will continue to bear fruit. He cautioned against actions that might incite public sentiments by misrepresenting or criticizing religious beliefs, urging people not to take the law into their own hands.
During the event, Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, also known as Pir Saheb Charmonai, spoke about his non-participation in elections, which precludes him from ministerial roles. Nonetheless, he shared his commitment to improving the country and honoring the sacrifices made by those who fought for its betterment. He underscored the importance of seizing current opportunities for national progress, warning that failure to do so might lead to regret from future generations.
