Chittagong: Chittagong Kings fast bowler Syed Khaled Ahmed left everyone in awe with his sheer bravery by coming back to cricket just two days after the death of his beloved mother. Khaled returned to the field for a match against Fortune Barishal, demonstrating remarkable resilience despite the personal tragedy.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Khaled learned about his mother's passing shortly after leading his team to a 45-run victory over Khulna Tigers, where he excelled by claiming two wickets for 26 runs in four overs. His teammates described him as devastated upon receiving the news, having entered the hotel in a jovial mood only to be overcome with grief. Khaled immediately traveled to Sylhet to bid farewell to his mother, missing the subsequent match against Rangpur Riders, which Chittagong lost.
Teammates were taken aback when Khaled decided to play in the match against Fortune Barishal, given the recent emotional turmoil. Despite the difficult circumstances, Khaled delivered another strong performance, taking 2-27, although it was insufficient to prevent Chittagong's six-wicket defeat.
Enamul Haque Jr, Chittagong's assistant coach, recounted Khaled's return to the field during a post-match press conference. He praised Khaled's courage and selflessness, noting how the team was proud of his ability to gather the strength to play. Enamul mentioned that he had advised Khaled to return, suggesting that the support of his teammates might provide comfort. Surprisingly, Khaled expressed his desire to play against Barishal.
Barishal's match-winner, Dawid Malan, also offered his support to Khaled. Despite being competitors, Malan embraced him, showing solidarity and comfort in the face of his loss.
