Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today expressed optimism regarding the current state of affairs in Khagrachhari, asserting that efforts to stabilize the situation have been successful. “We’re mobilizing our maximum efforts as none can create unrest in Khagrachhari,” he stated during the inauguration of new administrative-cum-barrack buildings for five police stations under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at the Old Ramna Thana Complex.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the home adviser emphasized that recent measures have significantly improved the situation in Khagrachhari following incidents of unrest that resulted in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to several others, including police and military personnel. He mentioned holding discussions with local leaders and law enforcement agencies to ensure stability in the region.

In response to inquiries regarding external influence in Khagrachhari’s unrest, the home adviser refrained from naming any country but acknowledged the existence of efforts to destabilize the area by groups affiliated with a past fascist regime. He also noted attempts to disrupt the ongoing Durga Puja celebrations, urging collective cooperation to ensure peaceful and safe festivities.

Discussing developments within the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, the home adviser highlighted the department’s current situation with half of its 50 police stations operating from rented spaces. He reaffirmed the commitment to relocating all stations to their own premises, signaling ongoing improvements within the police infrastructure.
