Rajshahi: A new keyboard for the Paharia mother tongue, representing one of the ethnic minority communities in the Barind area, has been launched to ensure its continuity for future generations globally. This development marks the entry of the Paharia language into the digital age, being recognized officially as the 295th language keyboard. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Rajshahi Divisional Ethnic Cultural Academy (RDEMCA) and the Pahariya Parishad organized the inaugural event. Dr. Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir, divisional commissioner and chairman of the Academy's Executive Committee, formally introduced the keyboard at the academy's auditorium. The program featured a discussion on the challenges and future prospects of preserving the Paharia mother tongue. Dr. Kabir, addressing the meeting as the chief guest, emphasized the critical role of language in human civilization, stating that it connects humans with nature and technology while enriching knowledge and culture. RDEMCA Deputy Director Benjamin Tudu presided over the meeting, with contributions from RDEMCA Executive Members Akbarul Hassan Millat and Shelly Pricilla Biswash, mother tongue expert of ethnic minorities Samar Michael Soren, and student Shishir Biswash. The initiative aims to promote the Paharia language, ensuring its preservation and integration into modern digital platforms, thereby facilitating its use among both current and future generations.
