Chattogram: Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested the key suspect involved in the double murder case in Chattogram from Nolerchar Bazar of Hatia thana under Noakhali district on Friday night. The arrested individual has been identified as Mohammad Hasan, 37, son of Mohammad Alam, from West Shahid Nagar, Subhan Contractor Bari under the city’s Bayezid thana. Hasan is known to be an accomplice of the notorious criminal, Chhota Sajjad.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrest was made following a tip-off. A team from Bakalia thana police conducted a raid in the Noler char Bazar area around 11:00 PM, resulting in Hasan’s capture. Officer-in-charge Ikhtiar Uddin of Bakalia thana informed that a foreign-made pistol, two magazines, and two rounds of bullets were seized from a shopping bag hidden behind a dressing table in Hasan’s room.
The double murder incident occurred on the night of March 30, when assailants on motorcycles fired upon a private car along Bakalia Access Road. The attack resulted in the deaths of Bakhtiar Hossain Manik and Abdullah Al Rifat. Following this, Firoza Begum, Manik’s mother, filed a murder case with Bakalia Thana on April 1, accusing seven individuals, including Chhota Sajjad and his wife.
Legal proceedings against Hasan are underway, as confirmed by the officer-in-charge.
