Khulna: To curb mosquito breeding and combat the dengue outbreak, the Khulna Development Authority (KDA) has launched a comprehensive mosquito control and insecticide spraying program in Nirala Park and the surrounding residential area. KDA Chairman Advocate SM Shafiqul Alam Mona formally inaugurated the campaign at Nirala Park and Residential Area at 11 am on Sunday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the KDA Chairman stated during the inaugural ceremony that the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes and the number of dengue cases increase during the monsoon season. He emphasized the importance of the KDA's initiative in protecting city residents from dengue infection and ensuring that the Nirala Residential Area remains dengue-free. The chairman highlighted that government initiatives and insecticide spraying alone are insufficient to prevent dengue and called for greater public awareness and participation.
He mentioned that following the directives of Prime Minister Tareque Rahman, the KDA is working relentlessly to implement extensive action plans to alleviate the sufferings of Khulna residents. He urged residents to maintain cleanliness in their homes, flower pots, yards, and rooftops and advised them not to allow stagnant water to remain for more than three days, as such conditions can become breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes.
As part of the mosquito control campaign, larvicides and fogging chemicals are being sprayed using modern fogging machines at mosquito breeding sites along different roads, drains, bushes, and around residential premises in Nirala. The KDA chairman mentioned that the mosquito eradication drive would gradually be extended to other residential areas under the KDA and different parts of Khulna city.
The program was attended by KDA Secretary (Deputy Secretary) Syed Faruk Ahmed, Superintending Engineer Md Mofizur Rahman, noted social worker and former councillor and president of Sonadanga thana BNP Md Hafizur Rahman Moni, Nirala Janakalyan Samity President Akhtar Hossain Firoz, General Secretary Md Abdus Sabur, senior KDA officials, local representatives, leaders of Nirala Residential Area Welfare Association, and local residents, among others.
