Khulna: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Md. Firoz Sarkar today emphasized the significant role of community leadership in ensuring a clean, healthy, and livable city. He highlighted the challenges in maintaining a hygienic environment despite regular cleaning efforts by KCC.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the administrator urged community leaders to spearhead awareness initiatives on waste management at the local level. These remarks were made during the inauguration of a two-day workshop titled "Strengthening Community Engagement for Health and Well-being" held at a city hotel.
The event was organized by Khulna City Corporation under the Non-Communicable Disease Control (NCDC) Program of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), with technical support from the World Health Organization (WHO). As part of the ongoing Healthy City - Khulna project, assessments have been conducted on the physical activity, dietary habits, and hygiene practices of residents in Wards 6, 18, and 25.
The workshop focused on discussing collective solutions to the identified issues. Participants agreed to clean three ponds in the selected wards and organize a cycle rally to promote physical exercise. The opening session was led by KCC's Acting Chief Executive Officer Sharif Asif Rahman.
Other notable attendees included KUET Professors Dr. Manzur Morshed and Dr. Tushar Kanti Roy, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Mizanur Rahman, and WHO Program Officer Asif Ahmed.
