Kaptai: The Karnaphuli Hydropower Plant authorities have started releasing water into the Karnaphuli River for the third time as the water level in Kaptai Lake has again approached the danger level.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the water level of Kaptai Lake has exceeded the danger level, prompting the release of water through 16 sluice gates of the Kaptai Hydropower Plant. The water is being released six inches at a time, confirmed Mahmud Hasan, Manager of the Kaptai Karnaphuli Hydropower Plant.

Mahmud Hasan stated that the water release began at 2:45 pm on Monday, with approximately 9,000 cusecs of water being discharged from Kaptai Lake into the Karnaphuli River every second. The release decision was made after rainfall in the lake’s banks caused the water level to cross the danger level.
