Jashore: Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) marked its 20th founding anniversary and University Day with vibrant and festive celebrations on its campus. The series of events, filled with joy and tradition, began at 10:00 am when Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Abdul Majid raised the national flag.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the university flag was hoisted by Regent Board Member Professor Dr H M Zakir Hossain, who officially inaugurated the University Day programs. Following the inauguration, a lively procession was led by teachers, students, and staff, creating a festive atmosphere across the campus.
The anniversary celebrations included diverse activities such as a cake cutting, a discussion meeting, a pitha festival, poster presentations, a "July Corner," and performances of local folk songs. The pitha festival was a highlight, where participants savored a variety of traditional pithas and local treats.
During the discussion meeting, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Abdul Majid, the chief guest, expressed pride in the university's achievements. He emphasized that JUST has gained significant recognition both nationally and internationally despite its brief history.
Professor Majid remarked, "Jashore University of Science and Technology stands tall in global rankings, surpassing many of the country's older universities in education and research." He also noted the university's modern infrastructure, including advanced laboratories, residential facilities, a scenic academic environment, and the second-largest gymnasium in the country.
The Vice-Chancellor underscored the necessity of land acquisition for future development, stating, "There is no alternative to acquiring land to advance education, research, and sports." He mentioned that a development project proposal has been submitted to the University Grants Commission (UGC) and expressed optimism that the government will support JUST's aspiration to become a world-class educational and research institution.
The university authorities reported that JUST currently has 6,213 students enrolled in 27 departments across eight faculties.
