Dhaka: President Mohammed Shahabuddin today characterized the July uprising as a movement driven by the youth and masses against longstanding deprivation, misrule, corruption, looting, enforced disappearances, killings, abductions, the denial of voting rights, and other forms of oppression and tyranny.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, President Shahabuddin marked the historic July Uprising Day by honoring the collective resistance that took place on this day in 2024. He acknowledged the unity of students, workers, and the general populace in their fight against a discriminatory state system and fascist misrule, which led to a significant victory. On the commemoration of this decisive event, the President expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the freedom-loving individuals of the nation.
In his message for the July Uprising Day, the President paid deep tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the struggle to liberate the country from authoritarian misrule. He offered prayers for the eternal peace of the departed souls and expressed his gratitude for the sacrifices of the brave individuals who were injured, disabled, or lost their eyesight during the uprising.
The President emphasized the state’s responsibility to ensure justice for the families of these martyrs and the injured, stating that it is a sacred duty. He highlighted that the primary goal of the July Uprising was to dismantle the fascist system, restore democracy, empower the people, and guarantee freedom of expression. He asserted that to build a prosperous Bangladesh, the fascist roots must be eradicated, and the spirit of July must be fully realized.
President Shahabuddin noted that following the uprising, the state has initiated an extensive process of reform. He expressed his hope that these reforms would embody the aspirations of the uprising, leading to the emergence of a new Bangladesh founded on justice and equality through a genuine democratic transition.
He concluded by wishing success for all programs organized in celebration of the July Uprising Day.
