Rangpur: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami central executive council member ATM Azharul Islam declared the signing of the July Charter as a landmark event in the nation’s history. “Through signing this, the people will regain their lost voting rights,” he proclaimed during a street rally organized by Kursha Union Jamaat-e-Islami at Beltoli Medical Mour in Taraganj upazila on Saturday night, where he served as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, ATM Azharul Islam, who is also the former acting secretary general of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, criticized India’s construction of the Farakka Barrage on the Padma and the Gajoldoba Barrage on the Teesta, arguing it has rendered the northern region a waterless desert. He promised that if Jamaat-e-Islami is entrusted with governance in the future and if he is elected, he would lead efforts for the development of the entire area.
ATM Azhar assured that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami would protect the people’s trust in society and the state as guided by Allah Almighty. He accused the previous Awami League regime of attempting to maintain power through violence against many scholars, youth, women, and children. He praised the current state of the country as free from oppression, achieved through the sacrifices of students and the public.
Earlier in the day, ATM Azharul Islam addressed another street rally organized by the Kursha Union Women Jamaat-e-Islami at Rahimapur Madrasa ground in the upazila. Both rallies were presided over by Mohammad Mohsenul Haque, President of the Kursha Union Jamaat-e-Islami.
Other speakers at these rallies included Jamaat-e-Islami’s Badarganj Upazila Nayeb Ameer Shah Muhammad Rustam Ali, Taraganj Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer SM Alamgir Hossain, Upazila Secretary Maulana Yakub Ali, and Union Secretary Maulana Al Amin.
