Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today emphasized the importance of maintaining transparency and public visibility in the process of preparing the July Charter. He issued these directives at a meeting of the National Consensus Commission, which was convened at the State Guest House Jamuna.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting saw the presence of Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz and other notable members, including Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Safar Raj Hossain, Justice Emdadul Haque, and Dr. Mohammad Ayub Mia. Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser M Siraz Uddin Miah and Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Haider were also in attendance.
During the meeting, Professor Yunus, who also chairs the commission, was briefed on the progress of the Consensus Commission’s efforts. The commission members assured the Chief Adviser that significant efforts are being made to finalize the July Charter by the target date of August 5.
In response, the Chief Adviser extended his congratulations to the members of the Consensus Commission, lauding their essential role and dedication. He remarked, “This is a historic event. The desire of the mass uprising will be reflected through this. So, the entire process must be completed transparently; it must be visible to the people.”
Furthermore, Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Dr. Ali Riaz communicated to the Chief Adviser that consensus has been achieved on eight issues following the second phase of dialogue with political parties. Discussions are ongoing to reach consensus on an additional seven issues.
