Rangpur: Police have arrested Rangpur Metropolitan Jubo League activist Nayan Zaman Nayan, 32, from the city in connection with an attempted murder case during the anti-discrimination student movement. Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ataur Rahman confirmed the arrest to BSS this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nayan was arrested around 9 pm from the Patbari area of Alamnagar under Ward No. 26 in Rangpur city on Saturday. Later, the police recovered a large quantity of country-made weapons from the area.
“Nayan has been arrested in a case of attempted murder during the anti-discrimination student movement,” the OC said, adding that he will be produced before a Rangpur court later today. Nayan, son of Nur Islam of Patbari area, had reportedly been on the run since August 5 to evade arrest.
