Dhaka: A group of Jahangirnagar University (JU) students and teachers have remembered the deceased of the fighter jet crash into the Milestone School and College in Uttara. The JU Students' Counselling and Guidance Centre, in collaboration with various cultural organizations, organized a candlelight vigil and solidarity rally at the central Shaheed Minar at around 8:30 pm.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan addressed the rally, expressing concerns over the collapse of institutional frameworks under past regimes. He emphasized that the incident was not merely an accident but a structural killing, urging the need to uncover the real cause of the tragedy. Prof Ahsan called on the government to act responsibly and promptly in addressing such circumstances.
Treasurer Prof Dr M Abdur Rab shared his profound grief over the tragic incident, highlighting the importance of an apt investigation to prevent the recurrence of similar events. Speakers at the rally stressed the necessity of a neutral, thorough, and credible investigation into the crash.
Additionally, a group of students under the banner of 'General students' conducted a torch procession demanding a fair investigation into the plane crash incident. The procession moved from the university's Bot Tola area to Shaheed Minar premises at around 9:30 pm, concluding with a short rally.
Earlier, approximately 30 students under the banner 'Nipironer Biruddhe Jahangirnagar' led a torch procession from the university's central Shaheed Minar to Bot Tola to express solidarity with Milestones School and College. The procession concluded with a brief rally.
Faiza Mehzabin, president of Jahangirnagar Sangskritik Jote (a faction), reflected on the painful time, noting that aspirations have been shattered. She expressed sorrow that children who once dreamed of the skies are now gone, emphasizing that this was not a mere accident but a structural killing.
