Jahangirnagar University: Jahangirnagar University (JU) chapter of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir today proposed 41-points demand for widespread reformation of the campus. The demands were made at a press conference held today at the Teacher-Student Centre of the university. JU unit Shibir President Harunur Rashid Rafi and Secretary Muhibur Rahman Muhib jointly addressed the press conference when Publicity Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun Saki moderated it.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the press conference began with a tribute to all martyrs, crippled and injured students, and masses of the July Revolution. The demands highlighted the need for a safe campus environment for female students, stringent measures against drug trade and abuse, and addressing issues related to dormitory occupation, student harassment, and violence. Ensuring justice in murder and other criminal cases was also emphasized.
The Shibir President stated their demands for an accessible campus for students with disabilities, hig
h-speed internet facilities, and adequate infrastructure for each department. They further called for the activation of Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union, and the conduct of dormitory and departmental student council elections.
Among the proposed measures were scholarships, financial aid, educational loans, academic master plans, examination schedule reform, and the establishment of paid research and teaching assistant positions. They also sought increased research budget allocation, comprehensive medical facilities, a creative cultural environment, infrastructural development, and environmental preservation as part of their reform agenda.
