Dhaka:Professor Dr. Shamima Sultana from the Department of Bangla at Jahangirnagar University (JU) has been appointed as a member of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the appointment was announced through a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration. The President made this appointment under Article 138(1) of the Constitution, citing the public interest.
Per Article 139(1) of the Constitution, Prof. Shamima Sultana will serve a five-year term or until she reaches the age of 65, depending on which comes first. Currently, she holds the position of Director at JU's Institute of Comparative Literature and Culture.
Prof. Shamima began her career at JU as a lecturer in the Department of Bangla in 2005 and became the department's Chairperson on January 30, 2022, for a three-year tenure. She was also elected as a Senate member in the Registered graduate category at the university on December 30, 2017.
