Jahangirnagar:Jahangirnagar University (JU) is planning to introduce an integrated academic calendar to tackle session jams, ensure timely completion of academic activities, and reduce delays in publishing examination results.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Nurul Islam stated that a meeting was held with the chairpersons of all departments to discuss the preparation and implementation of the integrated academic calendar. The university aims to coordinate the separate academic calendars maintained by different departments to establish a comprehensive schedule at the faculty level.

All department chairpersons agreed on the necessity of preparing academic calendars to address the session jam issue. Professor Nurul Islam mentioned that the departments will submit their respective academic calendars to the concerned deans within the next week. These proposed calendars will then be reviewed centrally by the vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellors, treasurer, deans, and directors of institutes to develop an integrated academic schedule.

The vice-chancellor emphasized the goal of ensuring that students do not have to wait six to eight months for their results. The initiative is aimed at bringing greater coordination to academic activities and reducing delays in examinations and result publication.

In preparation for the upcoming freshers of the 56th batch, Professor Nurul Islam stated that the university is developing a comprehensive academic calendar that covers admission, commencement of classes, examinations, and other academic activities. The aim is to ensure uniformity in academic schedules for the 56th batch and subsequent batches. For batches admitted before the 56th, the university will seek to coordinate the existing annual and semester-based systems and prepare separate academic calendars for each faculty.
