Dhaka: Saiful Islam Rony, a leader of the Jahangirnagar University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, passed away at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital following severe burn injuries sustained during an explosion at a house on January 27. Rony, a student of the Anthropology Department at Jahangirnagar University, was pronounced dead at approximately 10 a.m. at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Rony had been receiving treatment in the ICU of the hospital since the incident. The unfortunate explosion occurred due to a family dispute, where Abdus Sobhan Raihan reportedly set his house on fire by pouring octane, in the Islamnagar area near the university.
Rony, along with three others, sustained injuries while attempting to calm Raihan during the incident. Despite efforts to treat their burns, Rony succumbed to his injuries on Monday. The other injured individuals, Raihan, Rahat, and Hasinur, were also admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for treatment.
Dr. Zahir Uddin, the duty doctor at the hospital, remarked on Rony’s critical condition, noting that his throat and vital organs, including the heart, kidneys, and lungs, were severely affected. Rony’s condition was deemed extremely critical from the outset, leading to his eventual passing.
