JU celebrates Pohela Boishakh in festive mood

The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) celebrated Pohela Boishakh 1430, the first day of the Bangla New Year Calendar, today with a festive mood on the campus.

With the slogan, 'Borish Dhora-Majhe Shantir Bari', teachers, students and officials of the university brought out the traditional 'Mangal Shobhajatra' from Business Studies faculty premises at 9.45 am. The National Anthem and the song 'Eso Hey Boishakh' was played at the beginning of the procession.

JU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nurul Alam inaugurated the procession.

During the inauguration, JU VC said, "Pohela Boishakh festival is an integral part of Bengali nationhood. Mangal Shobhajatra is now recognized as a world heritage. So, it is now our pride. We have to work together to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh with new energy and enthusiasm forgetting the sorrows and failures of the past year.

JU Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Sheikh Md Manzurul Huq, treasurer Prof Dr Rasheda Akhtar, registrar Rahima Kaneez, deans of faculties, JU proctor A S M Firoj Ul Hasan and others, took part at the rally.

Earlier, JU VC Prof Dr Nurul Alam exchanged greetings of Pohela Boishakh with teachers, students and officials of the university about 8 am at his residence.
