JU Authorities Urge Government to Safeguard Prof Nahreen Amid Threats

Dhaka: The Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have reached out to the Home Affairs Ministry, seeking intervention to secure the safety of Geography and Environment Professor Dr. Nahreen I Khan, who has been facing continuous harassment and death threats.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the university administration revealed that an anonymous threatening letter was delivered to Prof Nahreen I Khan’s home on January 29. This incident, coupled with ongoing harassment and threats related to her public expressions, has heightened concerns about her safety.



The university’s administration emphasized that the delivery of the anonymous threat has escalated the security concerns to a critical level, necessitating immediate action from institutional authorities. This prompted JU to formally request the Home Affairs Ministry to implement necessary security measures for Prof Nahreen.



In response to the situation, the Jahangirnagar University Nationalist Teachers’ Forum has also voiced significant concern. They have urged the university administration to take proactive steps to ensure the professor’s safety, reflecting the broader academic community’s worry over her security.



In light of these developments, the university has formally communicated with the Home Affairs Ministry, emphasizing the urgency of protecting Prof Nahreen I Khan from further threats.
