Dhaka: Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, emphasized the state's responsibility to eliminate inequalities at every level of society. He highlighted the potential of the all-party caucus in addressing such disparities, thereby formally recognizing the contributions of marginalized and disadvantaged groups to national development.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the speaker's remarks came during a meeting with a delegation led by Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, convener of Citizens' Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh, and distinguished fellow of the Centre for Policy Dialogue. The delegation visited the Speaker at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban to discuss the caucus's role in ensuring the rights of disadvantaged communities to education, healthcare, and safe food.
The discussion also touched upon the need for institutional and technical support to achieve Sustainable Development Goal targets related to peace, justice, and strong institutions. This support is deemed crucial for advancing the country's development and uplifting backward communities.
During the meeting, the Citizens' Platform delegation congratulated the Speaker on his election and extended condolences on the recent passing of his wife, noted educationist Dilara Hafiz. Members of the delegation and senior officials from the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were also present.
