JS Committee Urges Fair Distribution of Ration Cards in CHT

Dhaka:The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs has called for the eradication of irregularities in the distribution of ration cards to repatriated refugees and non-ethnic populations residing in cluster villages in the hill districts. The committee emphasized that only legitimate beneficiaries should receive these cards.

According to United News of Bangladesh, this recommendation was made during a committee meeting chaired by Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday.

The committee requested the ministry to provide detailed information on vacant positions within the ministry and its subordinate offices at the next meeting and to outline the steps being taken to fill these roles. Additionally, the committee advised the ministry to present details of any irregularities and corruption during the previous Awami League government and the interim government, along with the actions taken against those responsible.

The committee also sought updates on measures addressing the concerns of all affected individuals related to the Sajek issue. Furthermore, it recommended increasing the honorarium for para workers involved in the Sustainable Social Services Project in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, aligning it with the rising cost of living.

Meetings and field visits involving the three Hill District Councils, the Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council, and the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board are planned for December 2026. The meeting also covered discussions on the allocation and equitable distribution of the ministry's budget for the current fiscal year, emphasizing irregularities in food grain allocation, expenditure plans, and various development projects. Recommendations were made for the ministry to take necessary actions on these issues.
