JS Committee Seeks Additional Staff for Parliament Library

Dhaka: The parliamentary committee on Jatiya Sangsad library today sought more manpower for the facility, particularly for its research section. The committee, which is chaired by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, also discussed ways to further enhance the quality of the library's reference and research services.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting also explored the possibilities of launching an E-Parliament system for reviewing the recorded proceedings. The committee decided to consult the leader of the House and the opposition through the parliamentary speaker for their opinions on this initiative.

This marked the sixth meeting of the committee of the 13th parliament, attended by members including Whip ABM Ashraf Uddin Nizan, Dr. M Mahbubur Rahman, Nayab Yousuf Ahmed, Mir Ahmed Bin Quashem, Sayeed Al Noman, Mohammad Nazibur Rahman, and Akhter Hossen. The meeting also reviewed the status of the implementation of previous decisions made by the committee.

Additionally, a sub-committee was formed, with Dr. M Mahbubur Rahman as its convener and Sayeed Al Noman and Mohammad Nazibur Rahman as members, to improve the quality of research and data-based reference services provided to lawmakers. The meeting concluded with a decision to hire consultants to manage the service, entrusting the sub-committee with defining the roles of consultants who are experienced in areas related to the ministries of health, home, finance, and local government.

Officials from the Parliament secretariat were also present at the meeting.
