Dhaka: The daily Bangla Bhumi Chief Editor and Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) permanent member Saidur Rahman Rimon died of a heart attack yesterday. He was 54. Rimon is survived by his wife, a daughter, and numerous relatives and well-wishers who mourn his passing.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rimon experienced severe chest pain around 11 am while on professional duty in the Rajendrapur area of Gazipur. Initially, he was taken to a nearby private hospital and later transferred to Gazipur Shaheed Tahuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead by the duty doctors at around 2 pm.
A namaz-e-janaza for Rimon was held in front of the DRU after Jhor prayers today. Members of the DRU, led by General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel, paid floral tribute to the late Rimon. The event was also attended by DRU former president Sakhawat Hossain Badsha, Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association acting president Omar Faruque Alhadi, and General Secretary MM Badsha, among others, who spoke in remembrance of Rimon.
In a message of condolence, DRU President Abu Saleh Akan and General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel expressed their deep shock over the death of Saidur Rahman Rimon. They offered prayers for the eternal peace of his departed soul and extended their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.
Rimon is set to be buried at his native Jabra village in the Ghior upazila of Manikganj district today, following another namaz-e-janaza.
