Dhaka: Nine insolvent and ailing journalists have received cheques totaling Tk 4,00,080 from the Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust (BJWT). BJWT managing director Mohammad Abdullah distributed the cheques during a programme at the Chandpur Press Club, where he served as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chandpur deputy commissioner Mohsin Hasan presided over the programme. Press club president Rahim Badsha and superintendent of police Mohammad Abdur Rakib spoke at the event as special guests. Mohammad Abdullah emphasized that deserving journalists have received financial assistance this time, unlike in the past when journalists were selected based on political affiliations during the previous government regime.
Abdullah assured attendees that such discrimination will not occur again in the new Bangladesh, which was achieved through the student-mass uprising. He stated that deserving journalists will continue to receive financial aid moving forward. Chandpur Press Club general secretary Kader Palash moderated the programme.
