Jollad Shahjahan dies

Shahjahan Bhuiyan, known as Jollad Shahjahan for executing a number of death-row convicts including six involved in the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family, died today. "Shahjahan Bhuiyan, 74, died this morning. He was admitted to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital last night with chest pain," said Sajib Dey, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Sher-E-Bangla Nagar Police Station. The former chief hangman of Dhaka Central Jail was freed from jail on June 18, 2023. Shahjahan was born at Ichhakhali village in Palash upazila of Narsingdi on March 26, 1950. Shahjahan was sentenced to 12 years in jail in a robbery case along with the financial penalty of Tk 5,000 on November 8, 1992. In another robbery and murder case, he was given life term imprisonment and fined Tk 5,000 more. In the cases, in total, he was sentenced to 42 years in jail. The jail authority pardoned 10 years, five months and 28 days from his prison term for his role as an exec utioner and demonstration of discipline.
