Khulna:A joint force has initiated a special operation in four upazilas of Khulna district to enhance law and order.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation started on Tuesday in Rupsha, Dighalia, Terokhada, and Batiaghata upazilas. The elite force SRB, Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), and Khulna District Police are participating in the effort.
Khulna Superintendent of Police Sarker Omar Faruk provided details during a press briefing at the district police superintendent's conference room. He stated that the primary goal of the operation is to curb drug-related activities and recover illegal firearms, noting that most targeted killings in Khulna are connected to drug activities.
In response to a question, the Superintendent of Police reported that 35 murders have been recorded in the district this year. Police have solved 25 of these cases, but the motives for the remaining 10 murders have not yet been determined.
He also highlighted Khulna city's geographical challenges, with the Rupsha and Bhairab rivers creating barriers that allow criminals to move quickly between areas, complicating arrest efforts. The Superintendent expressed optimism for significant improvements in the law and order situation within a week.
