Noakhali: The joint forces arrested a person with firearms in the Basurhat municipality area of Companiganj Upazila in Noakhali on charges of extorting money using the illegal left-over weapons of his son in the early hours of today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a team of the joint forces conducted a raid in ward no-6 of Basurhat Municipality and arrested Abul Hossain Bahar along with a pistol, one single-barrel gun, and one cartridge. The joint forces subsequently turned Bahar over to the Companiganj Thana Police.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companiganj Police Station, Gazi Mohammad Fawzul Azim confirmed the information. Police and local sources revealed that Bahar’s son Badhon used illegal weapons to engage in criminal activities. Badhon was known to associate with top criminals before he migrated abroad under pressure from law enforcement agencies.
The sources further indicated that Badhon left his illegal weapons with his father, who then used them to extort money in the area. Acting on secret information, the joint forces conducted a raid at Bahar’s residence early this morning, resulting in his arrest.
