Dhaka: An eight-member delegation led by Ichiro Adachi, senior global environment expert of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), met Dhaka University (DU) Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan at the latter’s office on the campus. The meeting focused on the implementation of a research project entitled ‘Implementing Water Quality Monitoring and Purification Technologies to Mitigate Health Risks for Antimicrobial Resistances in the Dhaka Metropolitan Area’, which is funded by JICA and JST.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka University will oversee the implementation of the project with Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain of the university’s Fisheries Department serving as the Principal Investigator. Prof. Niaz Ahmed expressed his gratitude to JICA for the initiative and showed eagerness to collaborate with JICA to enhance academic and research activities at the university in the future.
The JICA delegation included Hironori Nishikawa, Prof. Dr. Kozo Watanabe, Makiko Fijita, Toshiya Sato, Masahiro Tokumara, Dr. Bijon Kumer Mitra, and Dr. Sui Kanazawa. Present at the meeting were DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (admin) Prof. Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Biological Sciences Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Md. Enamul Haque, Meteorology Department Chairman Dr. Fatima Akter, Fisheries Department Chairman Mohammad Mamun Chowdhury, and Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain, among others.
