Dhaka: Md. Tariqul Islam Tariq, a central leader of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), has extended financial assistance to help a meritorious student of Dhaka University (DU) secure admission to a master’s programme. He has taken responsibility for all necessary expenses for the student, who was at risk of dropping out due to financial hardship.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tariqul Islam Tariq is the central joint general secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and a former elected general secretary of Salimullah Muslim (SM) Hall unit of the student organisation. The student who received assistance is from the 2019-20 session of the Department of Chinese Language and Culture at Dhaka University and currently resides at Sir A. F. Rahman Hall. The deadline for his master’s admission is May 7.
Meanwhile, his family is burdened with debt, making it impossible for them to provide financial support. In this uncertain situation, he contacted Tariqul Islam Tariq through a senior student from his hall. Upon learning about the matter, Tariq spoke with the student and immediately provided the necessary funds for admission today.
Expressing gratitude, the student said, “Due to lack of money, my education was on the verge of stopping. At that moment, I came to know about Tariq bhai through a senior from my hall and shared my problem with him. The way he came forward after hearing my situation has given me new mental strength. He has inspired me to live anew. My mother and I wish him continued success.”
Tariqul Islam Tariq described the act as simply a sense of responsibility toward a student. He said, “Humanity stands above politics. It is unacceptable that a meritorious student of Dhaka University, known as the ‘Oxford of the East,’ would have to stop studying just because of financial hardship. After hearing about his crisis, I could not remain still and tried to solve it personally.” He added, “The main goal of student politics should be to serve ordinary students and stand by them in times of crisis.”
