Jashore: The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination results under the Jashore Education Board (JEB) have seen a sharp decline this year, with the pass rate dropping to a record low of 50.20 percent. The results were officially announced on Thursday at a press conference held at the Jashore Education Board auditorium by its Chairman Professor Dr. Mosammat Asma Begum. Despite the dismal performance, the board authorities refrained from terming it a "result disaster".
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, 1,12,574 students from 10 districts appeared for the exams, of whom 56,509 have passed. Of the Science group, a total of 21,180 students appeared. Of them, 15,931 have passed and 3,381 obtained GPA-5. In the Humanities group, 78,999 students appeared and 34,003 passed. Of them, 2,179 achieved GPA-5. A total of 12,395 students appeared in the Business Studies group and 6,575 passed. Of them, 435 secured GPA-5. In total, 5,995 students obtained GPA-5 under the board this year.
District-wise results show that Jashore topped the list with a pass rate of 58.25 percent, followed by Khulna at 53.98 percent, Satkhira at 52.64 percent, Chuadanga at 50.35 percent, Kushtia at 48.85 percent, Meherpur at 48.51 percent, Narail at 46.46 percent, Jhenaidah at 45.07 percent, Bagerhat at 41.85 percent, and Magura, which recorded the lowest pass rate at 37.46 percent.
Last year, Jashore Board recorded a 64.28 percent pass rate with 9,749 students achieving GPA-5. The number of institutions with zero pass rates has increased this year to 20 colleges, which shows the declining academic performance in the region.
