Dhaka: Two senior professors from the University of Tokyo visited the Department of Television, Film and Photography (TFP) at the University of Dhaka. The visiting academics were Professor Dr. Yujin Yaguchi, Vice President for Global Education, and Professor Dr. Kaori Hayashi, Professor of Media and Journalism Studies and Executive Vice President at the University of Tokyo.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Hayashi delivered a lecture titled “The Rise of Fake News in the Digital Age: A Japanese Perspective.” In her speech, she explored the spread of misinformation and its impacts, drawing insights from Japan’s media environment and placing the issue within a global context.
Saiyeed Shahjada Al Kareem, chairman of the Department of Television, Film and Photography, remarked on the rapid circulation of misinformation that is reshaping social and political realities. He emphasized that the lecture enabled students to engage critically with fake news as a global media crisis through a Japanese lens, encouraging reflection in relation to Bangladesh.
Prior to the lecture, discussions between the visiting professors and faculty members focused on potential joint research initiatives, academic exchange programs, and institutional collaboration.
