Dhaka: Janmashtami, a significant religious festival for the Hindu community, honoring the birth of Lord Sri Krishna, is set to be celebrated across Bangladesh tomorrow with religious fervor and enthusiasm. Lord Sri Krishna, revered as the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born in Mathura on the eighth day (Ashtami) of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada, symbolizing the victory of good over evil.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have extended their greetings to the Hindu community on this auspicious occasion. Prime Minister Rahman engaged with prominent Hindu community members, distributing honorariums to priests and sebaits at an event organized by the Religious Affairs Ministry and the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.
Janmashtami is observed as a public holiday in Bangladesh, with numerous temples, religious organizations, and institutions planning elaborate programs to commemorate the day. National publications will feature special articles, while Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television, and private channels will broadcast programs focusing on the life and teachings of Lord Sri Krishna.
The Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee has arranged central celebrations at the Dhakeshwari National Temple, including a Geeta Joggo at 8 am. A colorful Janmashtami procession will start at 3 pm from Palashi intersection, passing through major city landmarks before concluding at Bahadur Shah Park. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed will attend the inaugural ceremony at Dhakeshwari National Temple as the chief guest, with Krishna Puja scheduled for the evening.
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has organized a three-day event at Swamibagh Asram in Dhaka, featuring recitations from the Srimad Bhagavad Geeta, devotional songs, and cultural performances. Industries Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir will participate in a discussion as the chief guest at 4 pm.
Temples nationwide will host varied programs to celebrate Janmashtami, reflecting the widespread reverence for Lord Krishna and his teachings in the Bhagavad Gita, which guide many in living purposeful lives.
