Sylhet:Amir Jangoo and Kevin Wickham hit half-centuries to help West Indies recover from an early collapse and reach 180-4 at tea on Day 1 of the second cricket Test against Bangladesh at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, West Indies, aiming for a clean sweep, won the toss and elected to bat first but faced challenges against Bangladesh's pacers. The team was in trouble early on, slumping to 27-3 within the first hour. However, Jangoo and Wickham steadied the innings with a 131-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Wickham, making his debut, scored 61 before falling to Hasan Mahmud. Jangoo remained unbeaten on 76 at the interval, alongside Justin Greaves, who was on 16. The session saw Taskin and Hasan sharing the four wickets evenly, each taking two.
Despite Bangladesh's poor slip fielding, which allowed West Indies to survive several times, Taskin managed to break through in the fifth over by bowling out Brandon King for 9. Hasan Mahmud followed by dismissing Kevam Hodge for 1. Taskin continued his form, trapping Joshua Da Silva leg-before for 12, leaving West Indies at 27-3.
Wickham, initially nervous on his debut, reached his fifty off 123 balls. Jangoo, returning to form after a poor first Test, reached his half-century from 86 balls. The pair helped West Indies recover before Hasan Mahmud eventually dismissed Wickham with a strategic delivery.
Jangoo and Greaves continued to play solid cricket, closing the session without further loss.
