Khulna: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has made a historic decision by nominating Krishna Nandi, the president of the party’s Hindu Committee in Dumuria upazila, as its candidate for the Khulna-1 (Dakope-Batiaghata) constituency. This nomination replaces the previously declared candidate for the upcoming national election.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this is the first instance of Jamaat nominating a Hindu candidate for a parliamentary seat. The announcement was initially made by Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman during an eight-party divisional rally held in Khulna on December 1. The decision was later reviewed and unanimously upheld at a meeting of local leaders in the afternoon.

Khulna district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Emran Hossain confirmed the decision to reporters in the evening. Krishna Nandi, upon his formal endorsement, stated, “The Ameer announced my nomination on December 1, and the local board finalized it today. I will begin campaigning soon.”

Maulana Abu Yusuf, the former nominee for the Khulna-1 constituency, expressed his support and commitment to campaign for Nandi. Previously, Jamaat had declared candidates for six constituencies in Khulna on February 9, with the Khulna-1 nomination being the only recent change.
