Dhaka: Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, announced on Sunday that the new government led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the opposition party Jamaat-e-Islami will collaborate to build a ‘new Bangladesh’. He expressed appreciation for the incoming Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman’s, visit to the residence of Ameer-e-Jamaat, calling it a significant change in political culture and a new beginning.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Dr Taher made these remarks during a press briefing after a meeting between BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman. Taher highlighted the long-standing struggle of both parties against the fascist government led by the Awami League. With the removal of the previous government, he expressed optimism that BNP and Jamaat, having contested the election separately, will now work together for the country’s welfare.
During the meeting, the Jamaat Ameer urged Tarique Rahman to ensure the maintenance of law and order across the country. Taher added that the leaders discussed ways to resolve potential misunderstandings or issues between the two parties.
Earlier in the evening, Tarique Rahman visited the Jamaat chief’s residential office in the Bashundhara Residential Area around 7:10 pm for a nearly 45-minute meeting. BNP leaders described the meeting as a positive political gesture following the election. Present at the meeting were BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr Abdullah Muhammad Taher, and Assistant Secretary General and Central Publicity and Media Secretary Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair.
