Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman expressed optimism that the election process would be peaceful, fair, and accepted by all parties involved. Dr Rahman shared his thoughts after casting his vote at Monipur High School and College in the capital, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful electoral process and the acceptance of its outcomes.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Rahman stated that his party would accept the election results provided the polls were conducted in a free and neutral manner. He highlighted the essence of democracy, which requires accepting results derived from fair processes, urging others to do the same. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to vote after a prolonged wait and hoped the election would mark the beginning of a new chapter for Bangladesh.
Dr Rahman noted the anticipation among the youth, many of whom were voting for the first time. He expressed hope that the election would lead to the formation of a government representing the entire populace of 180 million citizens rather than serving individual, familial, or partisan interests. He called for prayers and support in forming such a government.
Additionally, Dr Rahman mentioned plans to visit polling centers nationwide to monitor the situation. While he was willing to overlook minor issues, he assured that significant irregularities would be addressed to protect citizens’ voting rights. He emphasized the importance of collective cooperation in building the nation and recognized the media as a crucial societal pillar.
Dr Rahman encouraged voters to exercise their franchise peacefully and without fear, highlighting the role of each citizen in state-building. He also addressed media practices, pointing out discrepancies in news presentation and urging responsible reporting to avoid misrepresentations.
