Dhaka:Jaker Ali Anik has stepped in to replace Mominul Haque as the concussion substitute during the ongoing first cricket Test match against the West Indies. This change followed Mominul's head injury sustained on Day 3 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the injury occurred during the 78th over of the West Indies' first innings. Joshua Bishop, attempting to defend a delivery from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, edged the ball towards Mominul at short leg. Mominul dived to catch the ball but failed to hold on, landing face down and appearing to be in pain.

The Bangladesh team physio promptly assessed Mominul on the field. Following a concussion assessment, Mominul left the field, and Jaker Ali Anik initially came on as a substitute fielder. Jaker was later approved as Mominul's concussion replacement, allowing him to participate fully in the match, including batting, bowling, and fielding.

This marks the sixth instance Bangladesh has utilized a concussion substitute in international cricket. The first occurrence was during the 2019 Kolkata Test against India. Other instances include replacements in matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, with the latest being Tanzid Hasan substituting for Soumya Sarkar in 2024.
