Jagannath University Day Celebrated with Rally, Exhibition, and Discussions

Dhaka: Jagannath University (JnU) Day was celebrated today with the theme ‘Unified Jabian, Unwavering Life for the Achievement of Dreams’. Different programmes including a rally, photography exhibition, discussion and prayers were held marking the 20th founding anniversary of the university. The day began with the national anthem and hoisting of the national and university flags at the university’s Shaheed Minar in the morning.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Rezaul Karim officially declared the inauguration of the University Day by releasing balloons and pigeons. After the inauguration, a rally led by the Vice-Chancellor started from the campus, passed through Raisaheb Bazar intersection and Victoria Park, and ended back at the campus. After the rally, a photography exhibition titled ‘Annual Works 2025’ was organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts on the ground floor of Sajid Bhaban.



Speaking at the discussion held at the university’s Science Building, Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Rezaul Karim reflected on the establishment of the university, saying, “In 2005, the then Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia established Jagannath University. As a result, today we are able to successfully conduct various educational and research activities.” He highlighted the significant increase in the student-related budget since he took office.



Professor Karim emphasized the university’s ongoing efforts to maintain academic excellence, stating that the regular class monitoring system would continue and measures were being taken to ensure timely publication of results. He announced plans for a ‘Research Week’ to encourage research among teachers and students. The Vice Chancellor underscored the importance of collective efforts from teachers, students, officers, and employees in protecting the progress and dignity of the university.



The discussion was presided over by Teachers’ Association President Professor Dr. Md. Mosharraf Hossain, with Treasurer Professor Dr. Sabina Sharmin and General Secretary of the Teachers’ Association Professor Dr. Md. Raish Uddin as special guests. The program was conducted by Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Sheikh Gias Uddin. During the event, the Vice-Chancellor unveiled a collection of essays titled ‘July Revolution 2024 and Bangladesh without Discrimination: Opportunities, Problems and Transitions’. Prizes were also distributed to the winning students of the ‘Annual Art Exhibition’ of 2024 and 2025.
