Narayanganj city Mayor Dr Selina Hayat Ivy on Sunday called on everyone to maintain religious harmony in Narayanganj during the Sharadiya Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community.
She made the call while visiting the Shri Ram Krishna Mission Ashram Puja Mandap at Missionpara area in the city in the afternoon.
Dr Ivy warned that if anyone disturbs the peaceful atmosphere of worship with political or communal provocations, the person will be resisted sternly.
The Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation hoped that everyone would maintain the religious harmony and celebrate this festival unitedly, forgetting all differences.
Leaders of Hindu religion and ward councilors were present at the time.
After visiting the Mandap, Dr Ivy inaugurated an arch constructed by the City Corporation at Ramakrishna Mission on the occasion of Puja.
