Dhaka:The Italian Embassy in Dhaka is set to initiate a special training program in November aimed at facilitating the legal migration of skilled Bangladeshi workers to Italy.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro announced this initiative during a meeting with Mahdi Amin, the Prime Minister's Adviser and spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, held at the PMO in Tejgaon.
The program will provide aspiring migrants with essential training in the Italian language, civic culture, social customs, as well as practical technical skills necessary for employment in Italy. Those who successfully complete the training will have the opportunity to work in Italy.
Mahdi Amin welcomed the initiative, emphasizing that sending skilled workers to international labor markets and ensuring education in additional languages for young people are among Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's key priorities. He expressed optimism that the program would develop a skilled workforce and strengthen economic ties between Bangladesh and Italy.
During the meeting, Ambassador Alessandro also praised Bangladesh's role in United Nations peacekeeping missions and reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to work together as trusted partners. Discussions highlighted the strong ties between the people of both nations, with around 250,000 Bangladeshi citizens residing in Italy, whose remittances significantly contribute to Bangladesh's foreign exchange earnings.
Both parties also discussed the importance of expanding legal migration opportunities, discouraging irregular routes, increasing Italian visa issuance for Bangladeshi students, and simplifying the visa application process. Federico Zamparelli, Deputy Head of Mission at the Italian Embassy in Dhaka, was present at the meeting.
