Dhaka: Israel on Wednesday condemned Canada’s plan to recognize a Palestinian state at the upcoming UN General Assembly, blasting Prime Minister Mark Carney’s announcement as part of a “distorted campaign of international pressure.”
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Israeli embassy in Ottawa issued a statement expressing strong disapproval of Canada’s intentions. The statement criticized the recognition of a Palestinian state, citing the absence of accountable governance, functioning institutions, and benevolent leadership as reasons for their opposition. It further argued that such recognition would reward and legitimize what they described as the “monstrous barbarity of Hamas” on October 7, 2023.
The announcement by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has sparked significant diplomatic tension between the two nations. Israel’s response highlights the complex geopolitical landscape surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the differing international perspectives on the path to peace and statehood.
