Dhaka: A delegation from the International Republican Institute (IRI), a US-based democracy advising organization, today met the leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the latter's office here. The meeting aimed to address state reforms and the upcoming national election.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the IRI delegation was led by Christopher J. Fussner, a member of the Board of Directors of IRI. Other members of the delegation included Lisa Curtis, a senior fellow and director of the Indo-Pacific Security Program at CNAS, Jessica Keegan, a technical expert on democratic elections and political processes at IRI, Steve Cima, the Resident Program Director at IRI, Jami Spykerman, Program Director at NDI, John Fluharty, a political party and campaign consultant at IRI, Darin Bielecki, a consultant at IRI, and Amitabha Ghosh, a program consultant.
Representing the Jamaat delegation were Mobarak Hossen, a central executive body member, Advocate Jashim Uddin, president of the Lawyers Council, and Dr. Jubair Ahmed. The discussions centered around the prospects for state reforms in Bangladesh and the strategies for the upcoming national election.
