Dhaka: The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) will begin an investigation into some judges of the Supreme Court next week. 'Following Article 96(5)(b) of the Constitution, the President has asked the Supreme Judicial Council to investigate on some judges of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh,' the Supreme Court administration announced on its website.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Supreme Judicial Council has decided to start the investigation next week. This decision follows the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court's verdict on October 20 concerning the much-discussed 'review' of the 16th Amendment to the Constitution. This amendment related to the provision for the removal of Supreme Court judges.

The six-member Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, delivered the verdict, transferring the authority to remove judges from the Parliament back to the Supreme Judicial Council.
