Khulna: The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed today in Khulna under the theme "Drug-Free Bangladesh," featuring a range of programs including a rally, a colorful procession, and a discussion meeting. The day's central event took place at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office, where Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Feroz Shah served as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in his address, Feroz Shah identified drug abuse as a significant social threat that requires elimination. He pointed out that the majority of illegal drugs are smuggled into Bangladesh, advocating for both institutional actions and community involvement to address the problem. Shah also noted that recent changes in the educational system have made students more susceptible to drug addiction. He urged for heightened parental awareness and the encouragement of sports to keep the youth engaged in constructive activities.
The discussion was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam and commenced with a welcome speech by Md. Mizanur Rahman, deputy director of the Department of Narcotics Control in Khulna. Special guests at the event included Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Anisuzzaman, Khulna University's Assistant Director of Student Affairs Prof Md. Mahadi Al Mudassir, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Saikat Md. Rezwanul Haque, and Additional Director of the Department of Narcotics Control (Khulna Division) Md. Ahsanur Rahman.
Earlier in the day, a large rally and colorful procession were organized from Shaheed Hadis Park, drawing enthusiastic participation from individuals across various professions.
