Dhaka: The International Bangladesh Squash formally commenced today at the Bashundhara Sports City Squash Complex in the capital. The event was inaugurated by Chief Engineer of the Bangladesh Army Major General Md Hasan Uz Zaman, who marked the beginning of the five-day competition by releasing balloons. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the opening ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including Promoter Brigadier General G M Qumrul Islam (retd) and Bashundhara Sports City executive officer Colonel Mohasinul Karim (retd). The tournament has attracted twenty-four top-rated professional squash players from eleven countries around the world. The countries participating in this prestigious competition include host Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Singapore, Iran, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, Japan, and Germany. The organisers are optimistic that the involvement of international players will not only elevate the standards of the tournament but also play a crucial role in the advancement o f squash in Bangladesh.
